34.5/13.8 kV GIS Substation in Changuinola

Izharia Ingeniería finishes the engineering of this Panamanian medium voltage substation

– August 2016

Izharia Ingeniería was appointed by its client Gas Natural Fenosa Engineering to carry out the development of the Complete Engineering (Basic, Electromechanics, Civil and P & C) of the Changuinola gas-insulated substation (GIS), located in the Bocas del Toro, Panama.

The substation has voltage levels at 34.5 and 13.8 kV, with two oil immersed transformers of 15 MVA each, and a control building where SF6 insulated switchgear and the entire system of protection, control and auxiliary services are located. Part of the project involved the mobilization of an existing transformer of a nearby substation to be left out of service to be mounted in its new location in the SE Changuinola.

The substation connects Bocas del Toro with the interconnected system of Panama SIN. The line will link the province of Bocas del Toro (northwest), bordering Costa Rica, with the rest of the national grid, making more feasible further generation projects in the area.

Izharia Ingeniería run and led the entire engineering process for the development of the substation, scheduled for completion in August 2016. From basic engineering to detailed Construction engineering; earthworks definition, architecture and civil works of the control building and transformers niches and the corresponding electromechanical engineering.
